OVERVIEW

Reputation Management is a Stanford Graduate School of Business class to help current, and future, leaders conceive, author, rebuild, pivot, differentiate, and finally maintain a personal reputation to make a lasting, recognizable and powerful identity. The Stanford Graduate School of Business is the graduate business school of Stanford University.

Everyone experiences cognitive and behavioral blockers, that hinder them from being their best selves. These blockers impact how they respond to situations, how they communicate, and ultimately how they show up in the world.

The challenge of busy lives and scaling coaching

This cohort experienced higher levels of stress due to busy class schedules, and for many, also managing full time work and family life commitments. They needed to raise awareness of the blockers that were holding them back and draining their capacity and energy. While Stanford GSB offers extensive, top-of-the-line support, including 1-on-1 coaching, these sessions had to be booked, and given the complexities of person-to-person services, they are hard to scale and be available on demand or when the student needs them.

The group included a variety of nationalities and a mix of those about to enter the workforce, as well as seasoned professionals focused on leadership development.

To achieve the goal of raising awareness and creating healthier behaviors and thinking habits, participants could opt in to 8-weeks of MEvolution as a part of the course.

 

A lot more of my friends started telling me that they saw the improvements. I felt a difference in my energy levels and how I presented myself to others. People would come up to me and tell me, you’ve changed a lot. My close friends would tell me around like two weeks in, you’re a lot more introspective now.

APPROACH

 

SOLUTION IMPLEMENTATION

Programming included the full EMQ evaluation and then 7-weeks of development exercises, guided reflections and content that was delivered each week. The positive results seen by participants is due to the customized roadmap of exercises to address the blockers which is based upon the individuals results from their evaluation. This approach ensures the fastest and greatest impact to the persons thoughts, behaviors and actions.

STAKEHOLDER INSIGHTS

The lecturer received a report of participation, as well as aggregate data regarding the cohorts’ blockers, and the impact the program had on the participants.

REAL LIFE PRACTICE

Delivery of the techniques and new thought processes allowed participants to practice in the context of their real life, expediting increased awareness, better decision making, and sustained change.

24-7 ACCESS AND INDIVIDUAL FLEXIBILITY

While course content was unlocked each week to follow a recommended cadence, participants could complete exercises and reflections at their own pace to allow for flexibility that fit the ebb and flow of life. While there was a positive correlation between self- indicated effort, and outcomes experienced, every participant had an influential key take-away.

Participants had the freedom to choose the amount of time they wanted to spend on their MEvolution. The average time spent by participants ranged between 30 minutes and 2 hours, with the average being 1 hour dedicated to exploring and practicing removing their blockers. Every participant recorded gaining valuable take-aways with a number indicating major learning and growth beyond anything they had experienced in the past.

All content and materials were desktop and mobile enabled so that participants could complete work where and how they needed as well as have availability 24/7 so that they could use the techniques in the moment.

RESULTS IN JUST 8 WEEKS

Participants felt and saw improvements in a matter of weeks, feeling that critical aspects of resiliency and cognitive flexibility had improved such as the regulation of emotions and their response to situations.

Results also demonstrated the connectivity between blockers and that by working on just one of their internalization blockers brought fast impact across several areas, such as interactions with others and setting and maintaining boundaries.

For employees to achieve awareness and sustainable change in their choices and actions, that lead to improved wellbeing, performance, resilience, collaboration and fulfillment, companies need to offer programs that are 1) tailored to address the specific blockers of the individual and, 2) delivered in the order and manner that accelerates and maximizes the positive impacts for the individual.
